Men and Their Clutter

I just read this post from Marla's husband about his "talk" at the May FlyFest in Charlotte.

I'm not married so I can't comment from experience, but I found it interesting and thought maybe some of you "Fly Wives" might find it of interest as well.

In my case, I have a kid who can't get rid of the packaging his action figure came in. He still wants to keep the pictures it has of other action figures. Is this some strange way of retaining his adolesence? LOL!

Here's FlyLady's "Robert's" take on men's clutter: http://www.flylady.net/pages/robert_story.asp

Ooh Linda, you sound more organized than me - packing materials? Well, I have the tape and boxes, LOL!

You know, one thing that makes me a bit nutty - I never want to get rid of the boxes that medium/small size appliances come in.

(Heh, did that remind you of my last post bemoaning that my son wants to keep the packaging, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree?!)

Why do we do this? Well, I'm personally afraid that "something" will go wrong and I'll need to return it, and i'ts best to return it in the packaging it came in.

But honestly, rarely do things go wrong. And when they do, I'm already buried in everything else that came along since then anyways, and that paperwork is either filed or submerged.

Sigh. So do we keep the boxes or not? LOL, are we verifying warranties when we buy stuff, or not?

I try to, but too often, all those papers get put in the "to file" pile. I'm sure FlyLady has addressed this in her book "Sink Reflections" Oh yes, Wednesday is "Zone Cleaning and Partial Desk Day" and Friday is "Paperwork and Misc. Day"

Ok, so, going forward. My latest purchases have been minor. I'm trashing the boxes and putting the warranties with the bills to take care of during bill time. Then I'll trash the other unecessary boxes when I reach their "zone".

I say we keep only the boxes for small/medium size expensive items. Am I still being too much of a perfectionist? (I'm afraid I might be...)

    Any other suggestions anyone?!

G'night FlyLinda and Sweet Dreams to you and all Flybabies! :)
